The lot features an original hand created coffee table with exquisite burl wood accented legs and a wonderful western wood lined side. The piece is stamped on the bottom by Sweet Water Ranch. Lloyd Taggart's parents were one of Thomas Molesworth's first clients in the 1930's and later he became one of Molesworth's closest friend, exchanging around 100 letters during their life time. In 1991, 14 years after the death of Thomas Molesworth, Lloyd Taggart established the Sweet Water Ranch in Cody, Wyoming. The company was dedicated to restoring original Molesworth furniture and building additional pieces. Later that business was renamed for the now owner, Lloyd Taggart's son Marc Taggart & Co. This piece is from that company. Provenance: From the renowned Sundog Fine Art Bozeman, Montana collection and collected by Bruce VanLandingham. Bruce VanLandingham was a pillar in the American Indian collecting community and a respected expert. Along with being an avid collector Bruce also was the sole owner of Sundog Fine Art Gallery in Bozeman which was both part museum and gallery. Bruce always would tell his family, friends, and patrons of the gallery that he believed this table to be an original Molesworth that had been refurbished, but this cannot be confirmed as both Bruce and Lloyd Taggart are now passed on. The piece shows a typical Thomas Molesworth style with prominent Western motif, burl legs and red leather top. The piece is covered with a glass top and shows overall good condition with some signs of use. Measures overall 61.5"L x 31.5"W x 19"H. Marc Taggart and Sweet Water Ranch furniture is very collectible with some pieces being brought to auction such as the chandelier sold by Brian Lebel's Old West in 2007 for $5,500, the chairs sold by John Moran Auctioneers for $4,750 in 2016 and the sofa console table sold by John Moran Auctioneers in 2016 for $3,000, none of which show nearly the same Molesworth representation and quality as the coffee table offered in this lot.
