The film was initially released on Chistmas day, December 25, 1962 in Los Angeles, general release throughout the US was in March 1963. The Great Depression-era story of racial injustice and the loss of childhood innocence is told from the perspective of a young Alabama girl whose father, a widowed lawyer in Depression-era Alabama, defends a black man against an undeserved charge, and his children against prejudice.
