Featured in this lot is this pumpkin seed bottle circa 1880's found in the Gird Block in Tombstone, A.T.; Provenance: From the Tombstone Western Heritage Museum in Tombstone, Arizona. The bottle features a wonderfully and professionally crafted glass construction that shows the purple hue consistent with the time as cobalt was found to cause this coloration in 19th century bottles. Pumpkin seed bottles were used for saloons to be able to sell liquor to customers taking their liquor home with them. A row of buildings called the Gird Block stood directly across the street where the Gunfight parking lot is now. The block was named after assayer Dick Gird, who rushed all the way across Arizona to file the first two Tombstone mining claims along with his partners the Schieffelin brothers, Ed and Al. The bottle comes complete with an original museum tag that reads as follows: Found in the Gird Block in Tombstone. The condition of this pumpkin seed bottle is well preserved with very slight wear to the bottle consistent with age but otherwise shows a well preserved condition.
