Featured in this lot are four early Tombstone, Arizona Territory recovered bourbon, whiskey and rye bottles, with one bottle found in the ghost town of Contention, Arizona in the 1880s. The first bottle is from The Duffy Malt Whiskey Company in Rochester, New York in 1886. Walter B. Duffy, born in Canada in 1840, was a renowned businessman and distiller in Rochester, New York in the late nineteenth and twentieth centuries; his Malt Whiskey was among the most popular countrywide during the patent cure craze. Duffy got into business when he acquired his father's distillery in the 1870s; the company grew swiftly, and by 1881, it was selling alcohol, brandy, malt, wheat, rye, and bourbon whiskey. It is marked on the front reading, "The Duffy Malt Whiskey Company / Rochester, N.Y. U.S.A." and shows the company's logo. The second bottle is from Myers & Company and is marked on the front reading, "Full Quart Myers 100 Proof / A Union of Pure Straight Whiskies / Myers & Company Distillers / Covington, K.Y., U.S.A.". This is the only clear bottle in this lot. The third bottle is from A. Gettelman Brewing Company in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. It is marked on the front reading, "A. Gettelman Brewing Company / Pure Malt & Hops / Milwaukee". The fourth and final bottle is from the Moore, Hunt & Company (Jesse Moore & Co.) in Louisville, K.Y.. This bottle was found in the ghost town of Contention, Arizona and is marked on the front reading, "Jesse Moore & Co. Louisville, K.Y. / C.H. Moore Old Bourbon & Rye / Moore, Hunt & Co. Sole Agents". The bottles show good condition overall with slight wear present from their age and use over the years, but no major signs of damage are noted. They measure from 3" L x 3 " W x 11 7/8" H to 3" L x 3" W x 10 1/2" H. They have a collective weight of 6 pounds and 2 ounces.
