For your consideration is this Rare December 23, 1881 Tombstone Daily Nugget Newspaper from the Tombstone Western Heritage Museum, framed. Originally part of the H. H. Bancroft Collection of The Bancroft Library, the primary special-collections library of the University of California, Berkeley. The collection of western North American and California is the largest such collection in the world. The Tombstone Daily Nugget was sympathetic to the Cochise County Cowboys, who according to the San Francisco Examiner, were “the most reckless class of outlaws in that wild country—infinitely worse than the ordinary robber.” Also called the Daily Nugget, the paper was published by H. M. Woods & Company from 1880 to 1882, it was the CNN of the Old Southwest and Woods was sympathetic with the Cowboys. Members of the Cowboys were involved in the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral in frontier boomtown Tombstone, Arizona Territory against Wyatt Earp, his brothers Morgan and Virgil as well as Doc Holliday on October 26, 1881. In this edition, the Nugget starts a rumour about the Earps moving to San Bernadino; an "arrow" points to the article. At the bottom of the frame is labeled, "THE DAILY NUGGET DECEMBER 23, 1881 N-16 NOTICE TO DEBTORS OF TOM & FRANK McLAURY The Nugget starts a rumor on the Earps moving to San Bernadino". The newspaper is in amazingly preserved condition. Normal age tanning and wear exhibited, wood frame is in good overall condition with very slight scuffing to edges.
