Featured in this lot is this "Map of the Tombstone Mining District : Cochise Co., Arizona Ter." framed print, originally drawn in 1881 by Frank S. Ingoldsby, compiled by M. Kelleher and M.R. Peel and lithographed by H.S. Crocker & Company in San Francisco. The map depicts a thorough layout of Lincoln County, New Mexico, with an emphasis on towns, ranches, roads, and natural features. It is created in a classic cartographic manner. It focuses on places like Lincoln, White Oaks, and Carrizozo, which were significant during the Lincoln County War and the emergence of cattle ranching in New Mexico. The map also shows mountain ranges, rivers, and creeks, which were important for navigation and development in the Southwest's harsh environment. Roads and trails are precisely sketched, depicting links between communities as well as potential routes taken by settlers, law enforcement officers, and criminals such as Billy the Kid. In addition to natural features, the map may outline land ownership, ranches, and land grants, which were significant during a time when disputes over property and cattle rights fueled tensions in the county. It is lightly colored and shows good condition overall with slight wear present. No signs of damage noted. The visible map measures 29 1/2" L x 39 3/8" W, while the entire piece measures 31" L x 41" W x 2" D. It weighs 12 pounds and 10 ounces. Provenance: From the Tombstone Western Heritage Museum in Tombstone, Arizona.
