Featured in this lot is this HISTORIC Tombstone, Arizona Territory Tombstone Milling & Mining Co. J. Manton 10ga SxS sidelock shotgun serial number 3170 circa 1870 to 1880's and was displayed in the Tombstone Western Heritage Museum; Provenance: From the Tombstone Western Heritage Museum in Tombstone, Arizona. This is a J. Manton 10ga SxS side locking shotgun with laminated steel barrels with filigree decoration around the trigger housing with a 'J. Manton' markers mark and is marked on the buttstock 'T. M. & M. Co. (Tombstone Milling & Mining Co.)' The shotgun comes complete with an original museum tag that reads as follows: 10ga. shotgun marked on stock "Tombstone Mill & Mining". One of the most significant operators in the territory, it was founded by Albert and Ed Schieffelin, who were prominent figures in early Tombstone history. The Schlieffelins were well acquainted with the Earps and belonged to many of the same organizations. The Tombstone Milling and Mining Company played a major role in the economic boom of the Arizona Territory in the late 19th century, processing ore from the region’s rich silver mines. With its large stamp mills and financial backing, the company helped transform Tombstone into a bustling mining hub, attracting investors, workers, and infrastructure that shaped the town’s rapid growth and enduring historical legacy. The condition of this Tombstone Milling & Mining Co. 10ga shotgun is well preserved with a single repair to the grip and the wooden furniture of the shotgun shows age patina with some patina or slight oxidation adorning the barrel and receiver but otherwise shows a well preserved condition.
