Featured in this lot is this Tombstone receipt circa March 9, 1881 for "The Pool Table Morgan Earp was killed on."; Provenance: From the Tombstone Western Heritage Museum in Tombstone, Arizona. At 10:50 p.m. on Saturday, March 18, 1882, after returning from a musical at Schieffelin Hall, Morgan was ambushed. He was playing a late round of billiards at the Campbell & Hatch Billiard Parlor against owner Robert "Bob" Hatch. Dan Tipton, Sherman McMaster, and Wyatt watched, having received threats that same day. The receipt is a hand written notice of the delivery of the billiard table written by Jacob Strahle in advocacy of Cambell & Hatch who owned the saloon Morgan Earp was shot in with the conclusion of their business to be concluded in April 10th, 1881. The receipt features a professional letterhead and shows a slight blind stamp consistent with other examples of receipts of this nature of a billiard table at the bottom. The reciept shows a original museum tag that reads as follows: Receipt for the pool table purchased by Cambell & Hatch's - The same table Morgan Earp was killed on. Jacob Strahle was a prominent billiard table manufacturer based in San Francisco during the late 19th century. His company, Jacob Strahle & Co., located at 515 Market Street, specialized in producing billiard tables and related equipment. A notable connection between Strahle's company and Tombstone, Arizona, involves the assassination of Morgan Earp, brother of Wyatt Earp. On March 18, 1882, Morgan Earp was fatally shot while playing billiards in Tombstone. Historical accounts indicate that the billiard table he was playing on was a brand-new table manufactured by Jacob Strahle & Co. The condition of this iconic Tombstone receipt is well preserved with no obvious signs of damage and shows a well preserved overall condition. The measurements of this receipt is 8 1/2" x 5 1/2". E7
