Offered in this lot are Western Books from the Tombstone Western Heritage Museum, Tombstone, Arizona. Included are "Westward Ho! Volume Two", Kingsley, 1902, and, "Tombstone", Walter Noble Burns, 1929. The Tombstone Western Heritage Museum presented an ever-expanding collection of 12,000-plus objects related to Tombstone and the broader Old West. At the heart of the museum were original papers, photos, firearms, furniture, clothing, conveyances and other artifacts relating the history of the town and its citizens. A central display case was devoted to Earp family photos and keepsakes, including snapshots of brothers Virgil and Wyatt and a C.S. Fly–stamped photograph of Josephine Earp at age 18. One shelf held a locket of Josie’s, with facing photos of her and husband Wyatt. Above it a personal letter from Josephine, the canceled envelope addressed in Wyatt’s hand. Adjacent display cases held official and personal papers, possessions and photos (many by Fly) of such Tombstone icons as prospector and town founder Ed Schieffelin, first Mayor John Clum, gunsmith S.L. Hart, the aforementioned Earps and their McLaury and Clanton nemeses. Here, too, were mementos of the nameless everymen and women— miners and cowboys, actors, gamblers, saloon girls and prostitutes—who lived and died within blocks of this corner. "Westward Ho! Volume Two" by Charles Kingsley came from the West Point U. S. Military Academy Band Reading Room, West Point liabrary tag and ink stamps on endpapers. "Tombstone, An Iliad of the Southwest" by Walter Noble Burns is a highly influential work that helped shape the legend of Wyatt Earp for subsequent generations of historians, novelists, and screen writers. This novel, published in 1927, blends fact and fiction to portray Earp as a lawman-gunfighter, impacting how he is remembered in history, literature, and film. Walter Noble Burns was a writer of Western history and a Western fiction author. He was notable for his book, The Saga of Billy the Kid. Respective Tombstone Western Heritage Museum codes handwritten on front endpapers, "BK81" and "TT4". The hardcover books are in good overall conditions, scuffing exhibited on covers. Intact pages exhibit age tanning. Respective measurements are 3.625"W x 6"L x .75"D and 5.5"W x 8.25"L x 1"D. Combined weight is 1lb, 8oz.
