Included is a set of two antique blacksmith forged branding irons. These are from a small group of branding irons that were collected from the old Santo Domingo Pueblo in New Mexico. The Santo Domingo Pueblo today is known as the Kewa Pueblo and has been inhabited by the Pueblo Indians for generations. Both branding irons show great age and use, but are in remarkably fine condition overall. The longer of the two has a “V” over “L” brand while the shorter iron that was made to be fastened to a wood handle has a brand consisting of what may be a “9J” or similar. These are wonderful western artifacts.
