Featured in this lot are two Smokey the Bear fire awareness posters, one from the 1940s and the other from the 1980s. The first in this collection was made in the 1940s and is a reprint from the American Weekly May 17th, 1942 edition. This is a war and fire advertisement as the top reads, "Take Down This Monster" in red lettering and the bottom right reads, "Forest Fires Delay Victory". The bottom tells you ways to prevent forest fires such as what to do when breaking camp, how to put out campfires the right way and more. This poster shows significant wear throughout showing torn pieces and rips. The second in this collection was made in the 1980s and is a doubled sided poster. The poster shows the same scene on both sides, but one is in Spanish and the other in English. The post shows Smokey the Bear teaching younger bears the importance of fire safety. He is holding a sign on a stand that reads, "Never Play With Matches or Lighters" in white lettering against a red background. In the background is a waterfall with a small fish jumping out of the water. Smokey is in his iconic outfit, wearing his "Smokey" hat, and his blue jeans, as he holds a shovel in his left hand. The opposite side shows the same scene but the sign is in Spanish. The piece shows good condition overall with some slight wear present due to its age and use over the years. The larger poster measures 18" L x 13 3/4" W, while the smaller one measures 18" L x 12" W.*
