For your consideration this lot includes a Victorian 1890 steer horn cowboy hat rack. From the personal collection of renowned artifact dealer Jim Aplan of Piedmont, South Dakota and recipient of the coveted Governor’s Award for Historical Preservation in South Dakota. Aplan's interest in artifacts started as a young boy. No matter where he was, Jim continued to collect and enlarge his holdings of everything and anything to do with South Dakota and the Old West. His collection became so big that in 1965 he opened a museum at Keystone, SD. In 1981 was given the Preservation of South Dakota History award; 1982 the Outstanding Service to Dakota Artists award; 1986 and again in 2011, the Founders Award of the Dakota Territory Gun Collectors; 1998 Inductee into the South Dakota Hall of Fame. This vintage mounted steer horn rack is in good overall condition for its age, the original velvet cloth wrapping royal blue colour is faded. Most of the original finish has faded from the hardwood backing, a metal chain for hanging is attached at the top of the hardwood backing. Measures 13.25"L x 3.25"W x 2.25"D
