Featured in this lot is an Antique Victorian-era (19th-century) Neoclassical French Louis XVI Round Side Table, circa late 19th / early 20th century, mahogany. The circular top is a classic form for side or accent tables of this style. The ornate, turned, and fluted legs with an X-stretcher base are characteristic design elements of this style. The apron (the part below the tabletop) has a detailed beading dentil design and decorative rosette elements, and the legs are highly turned with a detailed lower stretcher connecting them. The cabriole legs feature horizontal, spool-shaped bobbin-turned embellishments, legs end in shaped feet, a simple pad or club foot style, a common feature in Queen Anne and some Chippendale pieces. French Louis XVI style tables from the 19th century—the era coinciding with the Victorian period—are defined by a return to Neoclassical principles, moving away from the ornate curves of the preceding Rococo style.
