Offered in this lot are three (3) Vintage First Edition Western-themed books including, "With Boone on the Frontier or The Pioneer Boys of Old Kentucky", Captain Ralph Bonehill, First Edition; "Hands Up! Stories of the Six-Gun Fighters of the Old Wild West", Fred E. Sutton, A. B. Macdonald, First Edition; "The Last of the Old West", George Mecklenburg, Signed First Edition. "Captain Ralph Bonehill" was a pseudonym of prolific children's fiction author Edward Stratemeyer who pioneered the book-packaging technique of producing a consistent, long-running series of books using a team of freelance writers. All of the books in the series used the same characters in similar situations. In "Hands Up! Stories of the Six-Gun Fighters of the Old Wild West", Fred Sutton (1860-1937), former Dodge City cowboy and U.S. marshal tells of true stories of the old west characters that he knew personally such as Billy the Kid, Pat Garrett, Wild Bill Hickock, Bat Masterson, Jesse James, the Dalton boys and the Jennings gang. He includes details of how he collected the various guns used by these old west characters for his collection. A neglected theme in western studies, religion, is nevertheless a cultural foundation of the American West. "The Last of the Old West" tells true stories of the pioneer Methodist ministers starting in the early pre-state years of Montana and continuing into the early 20th century. Much history of the development of Montana is presented including early agricultural practices and mining, as well as the arrival of railroads. All three green cloth bound gold gilt stamped hardcover books are in nice condition, scuffing and staining observed on covers and edges. Intact pages exhibit age tanning, foxing.
