For your consideration is an Vintage Koken Hydraulic Barber Chair, circa mid century. Leather and Chrome plated. Created by Ernest Koken and originally manufactured in St. Louis, Missouri, the hydraulically-operated barber chair revolutionized the industry in 1900. The patented joystick-style lever that allowed barbers to quickly and easily control all of the chair's movements made the Koken Hydraulic Barber Chair a runaway success with barber shops across the United States and beyond. Koken chairs weren’t just tools—they were works of art, often featuring scrollwork, reclining headrests, and patented “side-lever” mechanisms. These chairs symbolized the dignity and craftsmanship of the professional barber. At the height of its influence, Koken Barber Supply was exporting chairs around the world and was considered the premier barber furniture brand in the United States. This Koken barber chair features the Koken model #736 design, "An exquisite All-Chrome Chair. Streamlined, form-fitting Back and Seat. Sort Spring Upholstery with Genuine Leather. Triple Chrome Plated Spun Copper Base. Perfect posture Chrome Plated Arms - cut out on sides, and upholstered to match seat. Seat Frame and all other castings, Tripled Plated Chrome, except Foot Board and Foot Rest which are of Polished White Metal Alloy which will not turn brassy. KOKEN'S exclusive 10-inch range Hydraulic Lock and finger tip reclining." Swivel foot rest and calf rest foot board have the KOKEN stamp. This Koken barber chair is in good overall condition, auburn-coloured leather is well maintained, chrome plating is still bright. Measures 45"H x 28.5"W x 31"D with headrest down and foot rest contracted, weight is 300lb.
