Presented in this lot are Vintage Stetson Cowboy Hats circa 1880s to 1940s. Provenance: Tombstone Western Heritage Museum, Tombstone, Arizona. Considered the standard and classic Western hat, Stetson Hats were designed and created by John B. Stetson as a lightweight all-weather hat for the demands of the American West. The term "Stetson" eventually became all-but-interchangeable with what later became known as the cowboy hat due to later style-designs based on how the rounded-crown would deform from regular use. The "Boss of the Plains" style would become the cornerstone of Stetson's hat business and is still in production today. These four hats are versions of the "Boss of the Plains" classic, one with a Tombstone Western Heritage Museum label that reads, "1880-1910 ORIGINAL HAT Called "The Boss of the Plains it was a very popular style from the 1870's to 1910", museum code, "LO25". Hatband has original embossed John B. Stetson Co. trademark as well as the haberdasher name. The second of these Stetson hats has a Tombstone Western Heritage Museum label, "1940's STETSON HAT sold by Porter's Saddle Shop in Tucson, AZ. Donated by Tom & Becky Lindner". Hat features the Porter's trademark stamp along with the Stetson trademark stamp as well as the iconic Stetson tied bow and size indicator still attached to the rear of the hatband. Initials, "R. H." stamped to the front of the hatband. The third Stetson hat is stamped with "Stetson Nutria Quality" on the hatband as well as "H. W. Starr The Saddle Shop", with the iconic Stetson tied bow attached. The last Stetson hat is also stamped "H. W. Starr The Saddle Shop", as well as "3X Beaver Quality" on the hatband. The H. W. Starr hats are circa 1930s-1940s. The hats are in amazingly preserved condition for their ages, wear consistent with age and handling. Hats appear to be the same size, bowls approximately 4.5"H to 5"H, 12.5"W x 14"L overall. Combined weight is 1lb, 4oz.
