Offered in this lot is a Vintage University of Montana Large Vertical Banner, circa 1967 to 1995. UM's "spirit colours" have always been maroon and silver. They played in those colours from the late 1800s until the late 1960s. In 1967, incoming coach Jack Swarthout, who had previously been a college assistant coach under University of Texas head coach Darrell Royal, made a change to the uniform's colours. Trying to mimic the Texas Longhorn's burnt orange colour, Coach Swarthout replaced the old school colours with copper and burnt orange, a colour change that lasted until the end of the 1995 season. Today maroon and silver are the official colours of UM’s branded line of clothing. An impressive piece of Montana and University of Montana history, this large banner is in nice overall condition, some hanging grommets are missing. Measurements are 6'9"W x 16'8"L, weight is 8lb, 2oz.
