Made available for public purchase in this lot is a fantastic original W.B. Ten Eyck Billings, Montana Territory saddle. The saddle is marked W.B. Ten Eyck Billings M.T., a hallmark that is considered to be the most attractive and interesting of all saddle marks used in Montana (Saddleries of Montana by Lyndes, Reynolds and Sage). The saddle shows a square skirt, high seat or back, tall thin pommel which dates to the circa 1880’s. Montana Territory existed from 1864 until November 8th 1889 when Montana was granted statehood by President Benjamin Harrison. This saddle is marked with the M.T. “Montana Territory” mark and shows the correct stylings to pre-date statehood and pre-date 1889. W.B. Ten Eyck saddles and holsters are exceedingly rare with very few examples being brought to sale such as the holster that sold for $5,225 at Heritage Auctions 2009 sale and the saddle that sold for $2,500 at Brian Lebel’s Old West Events auction in 2017. This example shows very good condition for its early age. Provenance: From a long time, rancher and outfitter in Livingston, Montana who has since passed away. The saddle has a 13.5" seat.
