For your consideration is this W.H. McMonies & Company leather and split willow fishing creel. W.H. McMonies & Co., headquartered in Portland, Oregon, was a well-known maker of high-quality fishing creels in the early twentieth century. Their creels are renowned for their great craftsmanship and unique designs, making them highly sought after by collectors and fishermen. McMonies creels frequently feature hand-woven split willow baskets with tooled leather trim and straps. Some variants feature a leather bag on the front for extra storage. This particular creel does not feature the misspelled company badge on the back, but instead features a stamp with the correct spelling reading, "McMonies / Portland, OR.". It shows beautiful tooled leather and a tight split willow weave. The top of the lid features the fish hole and the front shows a leather and metal buckle strap to secure the lid. Above the stamped logo on the back is the previous owners signature reading, "E.G. Erickson / Portland, Ore." in black ink or stain. The creel houses a leather shoulder strap that can be connected to two slots in the back for easy carrying. The creel shows good condition overall with slight wear present from its age and use over the years, but no major signs of damage noted. It measures 7 1/2" L x 15 1/2" W x 9 7/8" H and weighs 2 pounds and 6 ounces.
