The book chronicles the life of Major General Eugene Asa Carr (1830-1910), a Medal of Honor recipient, prominent Union general and legendary Indian fighter who earned the nickname "War Eagle" from the Indians he campaigned against on the American frontier. Carr saw saw service against the Indians in the southwest and central plains and during the "Kansas Trouble". Dr. James T. King (1933-2014) was a prominent American historian and long-time professor at the University of Wisconsin–River Falls, specializing in the history of the post-Civil War American West and the complex military figures who shaped that era.
