Available in this lot we have a Welsh Aberaman Colliery coal miners safety lamp. The lamp shows sturdy brass construction with a glass cylinder set into the housing. The lantern is marked across the front reading "British Coal Mining Company Wales U.K. Type Vale Colliery Name & No Aberaman Colliery Serial No 233513" and marked on the bottom with warnings and a "Made in Wales". The lamps where used by miners as a source of light and as a way to detect harmful gasses by watching if the flame changed shape or color. The piece shows good condition overall with some light wear and scuff marks. The lamp measures 8 5/8" tall (12 1/2" including the hook) with a diameter of 3 1/2".
