Presented in this lot is a Rare Vintage Westley Richards & Co. Oak Leather and Brass Gun Case, circa 1875 to 1898. Westley Richards & Co., a celebrated British gunmaker, was founded in 1812 by William Westley Richards, and is known for its innovation and high-quality sporting and military firearms, including patents for breech-loading rifles and solid-drawn brass cartridges. Westley Richards's expertise and quality were recognized with royal warrants. This oak leather gun case has a fitted interior is lined with green baize bearing paper labels, "Instructions ofr Using Westley Richards Hammerless Gun...", WESTLEY RICHARDS & Co. Limited PATENTEES Gun Makers to HER MAJESTY THE QUEEN To H.R.M. THE PRINCE OF WALES H.R.M. THE DUKE OF EDINBURGH H.R.H. DUKE OF CONNAUGHT 178 New Bond Street London", and, "INSTRUCTIONS FOR CLEANING WESTLEY RICHARDS & CO.'S mPatent Breech Loading Snap Gun...", and, "Instruction for Using Westley Richards Hammerless Gun...". Green baize lining exhibits wear from use, oak shows signs of moisture swelling, leather cover displays rich patina, scratches and scuffing from use & wear. Brass corner caps, lock mechanisms, tack nails, hinges and strap D rings exhibit rich patina. Leather straps and floor bumpers are weathered, one bumper missing. Measures 12.5"W x 33"L x 3.5"D, weight is 14lb, 2oz.
