Featured in this lot for sale is a production year 1890, Winchester Model 1873, Lever-Action, full octagon saddle ring carbine, chambered for .38-40, or .38 Winchester Center Fire (WCF). The Model 1873 was one of the most successful Winchester rifles of its day, with Winchester marketing it as "The Gun that Won the West". Still an icon in the modern day, it was manufactured between 1873 and 1923. It was originally chambered for the .44-40 cartridge, which was the first centrefire cartridge and which became immensely popular. The 1873 was later produced in .38-40 and .32-20, all of which later became popular handgun cartridges of the day, allowing users to carry just one type of ammunition. This particular example is chambered in the .38-40 cartridge, and features a full octagon 24" barrel, with a height adjustable rear buckhorn sight, paired with a blade front sight. The rifle shows an exceptional refinish job, with a brilliant blue'd receiver, and barrel. The rifle is marked with correct roll-stamping, reading; "Model 1873" on the upper-tang, Serial Number "357364B" on the lower tang, "38 Cal" on the brass lifter, ".38 W.C.F." on the top of the barrel, behind the rear sight, and ‰ÛÏWINCHESTER‰ÛªS ‰ÛÒREPEATING - ARMS-NEW HAVEN, CT‰Û over ‰ÛÏKING‰ÛªS ‰ÛÒ IMPROVEMEMT ‰ÛÒ PATENTED ‰ÛÒ MARCH 29, 1866. OCTOBER 16, 1860.‰Û. Overall, the rifle shows good aesthetic and mechanical condition - the refinish shows good professional quality, with only a small scuff on the right side of the receiver, under the loading gate. The action is tight, and the bore shows good condition overall, with strong rifling, with some darkness. The rifle qualifies as an Antique Long Gun, and does not require FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check. Serial Number: 357364B.
