For your consideration is a Winchester Model 1897 Slide Action Shotgun. This shotgun has a manufacture date of 1912. The Model 1897 features the standard pistol grip, exposed hammer, 23 1/2" barrel, solid frame design and is chambered in 12 gauge. This shotgun holds five rounds in the magazine. The Winchester Model 1897 was designed by John Browning. The Model 1897 is an external hammer shotgun lacking a trigger disconnector. This means that the user can hold the trigger down while cycling the shotgun and once the action is returned to battery the shotgun fires. The firearm itself is classified as a slide action pump shotgun. It was the first truly successful pump-action shotgun produced. The 1897 introduced a "take down" design, where the barrel could be taken off, a standard in pump shotguns made today. Over time, "the model 97 became the most popular shotgun on the American market and established a standard of performance by which other kinds and makes of shotguns were judged, including the most expensive imported guns. The barrel is marked "Made in the U.S.A. - Manufactured by the Winchester Repeating Arms Co. New Haven Connecticut U.S.A. Pat. Nov. 25. 90. Dec. 6. 92. July 21. 96. Feb. 22. 98. June 14. 98. Oct. 16. 1900. Dec. 25. 06. July 5. 10. - 12 GA. - 2 3/4 Cham. IMP - CYL." The straight grain walnut stock is in good condition and shows minor wear from use. Serial Number: 557970. This firearm qualifies as a Curio & Relic Long Gun, and requires FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check.
