Included in this lot for bidding is a Winchester Model 70, Bolt Action rifle, chambered in .270 Win. The Mod. 70 was largely based off of the Model 54, and was nicknamed "The Rifleman's Rifle". Additionally, the Model 70 was coined as the "Bolt Action Rifle of the Century" by Shooting Times Magazine, in 1999. The Model 70 began production in 1936.. This fine rifle utilizes cut-checkered texture on the walnut fore-grip and pistol grip. The receiver is mounted to receiver a scope. The rifle is marked in numerous places on the 25" round blue'd barrel, reading; "-MADE in U.S.A.- Winchester Proof Steel - Winchester ® Model 70 -270 WIN." on the left side of the barrel, and "Winchester -Trade Mark-" on the left side of the receiver. The rifle includes the original hooded front sight, and hinged adjustable semi-buckhorn rear sight. Overall, the rifle shows very good mechanical condition, and fair aesthetic condition. The rifle has a dull bore, with strong rifling, and a tight, smooth action. The walnut butt-stock and fore-grip shows some light wear from use, and transport. Manufacture date of 1957. Serial Number: 402912. This rifle qualifies as a Curio & Relic Long Gun, and requires FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check.
