For your consideration is a Winchester Model 75 Target .22 Long Rifle bolt action rifle. In the 1930s, Winchester had been building the Model 52, a high-quality target rifle that was used by many shooting teams worldwide for several decades. Winchester wanted to build a medium-cost target rifle, but the Model 52 was not suitable for this role as it was too expensive and too heavy for the young shooter. As such, Winchester appointed its designers to design a new lighter, less expensive target rifle that could still win matches if used by more experienced shooters. Taking the action of the Model 69 as a base, a new weapon was developed around the action; this weapon would become the Model 75. The action was later modified to allow for a bit of an advantage compared to other rifles, when it came to precision shooting. The Model 75 began production in 1938 and was first advertised in 1939, touting it as being lighter than and as accurate as the older Model 52. This beautiful target rifle utilizes a 28” round barrel chambered in .22 Long Rifle only. The barrel is fit with a hooded front sight and Redfield adjustable rear sight. The left of the barrel is stamped “Made in U.S.A. Winchester Repeating Arms Co. New Haven. Conn. – Patent Pending – Model 75 – 22 Long Rifle – Winchester Trademark.” The rifle has a walnut stock, showing very good condition, and a metal butt plate. This rifle was manufactured in 1957.
