Featured in this lot is this Winnebago burl spoon Prairie du Sac collected in the 1920's. The spoon features a wonderfully and professionally crafted burl wooden construction that shows a naturally dyed red ochre all over the spoon. The Ho-Chunk, also known as Hocak, Hoocagra, or Winnebago are a Siouan-speaking Native American people whose historic territory includes parts of Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, and Illinois. Today, Ho-Chunk people are enrolled in two federally recognized tribes, the Ho-Chunk Nation of Wisconsin and the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska. The condition of this Winnebago spoon is well preserved with only slight wear to the wooden frame of the spoon and shows fading to the dye of the spoon but otherwise is well preserved. The measurements of these spoon is 16" x 4 7/8" x 4 1/2". The collective weight of this spoon is 8oz.
