For your consideration is this First Edition (Charles Scribner's Sons, publisher) of "With Thackeray in America", by Eyre Crowe. Publised in 1893-thirty years after the writer's death-it is the author's illustrated account of his year accompanying William Makepeace Thackeray on a lecture tour in the United States in 1852-3. Crowe was a British painter and Thackeray was a British novelist and author, known for his satirical, particularly "Vanity Fair", a panoramic portrait of English Society. Though often humorous, the importance of Crowe's account lies in his drawings of life in 1850's America. This book is in very good condition in its original green cloth with gilt titles and decoration. It has a gift inscription in the front cover from 1893 and later library markings, including a call number on the spine. The book measures 6.5" x 8.5".
