Featured in this lot is a World War II Jambiya "Bring Back" Knife, circa 1941-1945, with a fitted leather shrouded wood scabbard as well as an extra similarly designed longer scabbard. "Bring Back" knives came in two versions: those of a purely souvenir nature, crafted and sold to American military personnel after World War Two; actual fighting knives made for combat. A jambiya, also spelled janbiya, jambya, jambia and janbia, also known as a shibriyeh in the Levant, is a specific type of dagger with a short curved blade with a medial ridge that originated from Yemen that have spread throughout the Middle East, the Arab world and parts of Southeast Asia. Each region has its own differences in the curvature of the blade; the Jordanian shibriyeh is typically uncurved unlike the Yemeni jambiya. The jambiya handle often tells of the social status of the man who wears it. This two-sided blade is constructed out of steel and features a double quillon wood hilt resembling Philippine mahogany. Both leather shrouded wood scabbards have a raised leather floral design, the longer scabbard has black polka dots against a reddish base colour, the shorter has a mahogany colour. The jambiya measures 11" long with the blade being 6.75" long. Fitted scabbard measures 7.75"L, longer scabbard is 13.75"L. Combined weight 8oz.
