Featured in this lot is this WWII R.A.F strategic flight map Midlands and Wales. The map features a wonderfully and professionally crafted chartographer construction that shows wartime air bases operational at the time including Burtonwood, Penrhos, Pembrey, Aston Down, Filton, Wroughton, Castle Bromwich, Northolt, Hendon, Bassingbourne, Coningsby, Digby, Waddington, Snaith, Finningley, Hemswell, Scampton (Dambusters), Pocklington, Elvington etc. The German Luftwaffe were significant in the assault from the air on Britain and it was the Luftflotte 3 (Generalfeldmarschall Hugo Sperrle) concentrated on the West Country, Wales, the Midlands and north-west England. The condition of this R.A.F flight map is well preserved with no obvious signs of damage and shows a well preserved overall condition. The measurements of this strategic map is 25" x 37" and the visible map is 23 1/8" x 35 1/4".
