Presented in this lot is this Yellowstone National Park Color Photogravure Portfolio, Haynes Inc., circa 1930s-1940s. Frank Jay Haynes, known as F. Jay was a professional photographer, publisher, and entrepreneur from Minnesota who played a major role in documenting through photographs the settlement and early history of the great Northwest. Frank Jay Haynes first photographed Yellowstone National Park in 1881 and created a family dynasty that would span eighty plus years. The album displays 24 hand-tinted colour photos of views across the park. The photos include Mammoth Hot Springs, Old Faithful, Norris Geyser Basin, Yellowstone Lake, the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone and more. This portfolio is in very fine condition, is punched on the left side and fastened together with an attrative grey string. The portfolio is covered in a ivory colored parchment like material. In front of the first photogravure is a glassine type onion skin for protection. This portfolio is beautiful with very little wear on the edges, no other obvious marring noted.
