Featured in this lot is this Zapotec estrella medalliones Saltillo rug, circa 1960's. This is a fantastic, tightly woven, and large Saltillo rug with a red field, a light brown border, and an inside stepped design. The field features five stars of dark blue and black, with the center featuring a medallion of light blue. Zapotec rugs are wool-woven in a foot loom in Teotitlan del Valle, Oaxaca. The town has a pre-Hispanic weaving tradition and is world famous for its fine tapestries and wall hangings decorated with traditional Zapotec and Mixtec fretwork, idols, animals, or reproductions of famous creations by artists like Diego Rivera, Pablo Picasso, and M.C. Esher. The condition of this rug is good, with some wear to the tassels . The measurements of this rug are 57" x 74".
