This lot features a Zapotec wool runner. The Zapotec civilization was an indigenous pre-Columbian civilization that flourished in the Valley of Oaxaca in Mesoamerica. When the Spanish first arrived in North America, it was the Zapotecs they first taught their style of weaving to. This runner has a charcoal grey/black boarder on three sides with a cream base and tan symbols. This striking runner has a tight weave and a stunning design. From the center out, the pattern shows tan and cream bands in the center and four geometric symbols ending with a star on each end with 5" tassels. The rug is in good condition and measures 35" W x 100" L.
