Featured in this lot is this Zulu Nation, South African Umkhonto throwing spear. The spearhead shows leaf-like construction with a forged steel shaft tang and a long haft. The blade is covered by a rawhide sheath, also known as an assegai, and is a pole weapon used for throwing, usually a light spear or javelin made up of a wooden handle and an iron tip. Ulu is a nation of Nguni-speaking people in KwaZulu-Natal province, South Africa. The condition of this throwing spear is good, with no obvious signs of damage. The measurements of this spear are 70 1/2" x 2 1/4", with a forged spear head length of 31 1/2".
