The lot features an excellent early Zuni Native American Indian polychrome pottery effigy figure of an owl and dating to circa 1900-1920. The piece is done in the classic early stylings and is truly a wonderful original rare effigy. The early 20th Century piece shows a handmade pottery construction with polychrome mineral pigment painted design in white, black/brown and red/orange showing a feather and features design. The rotund figure shows an owl having protruding wings, a tail, and facial features / ears with a matching smaller baby owl sitting on its tail. The base is signed Zuni. Provenance: From the renowned Sundog Fine Art Bozeman, Montana collection and collected by Bruce VanLandingham. Bruce VanLandingham was a pillar in the American Indian collecting community and a respected expert. Along with being an avid collector Bruce also was the sole owner of Sundog Fine Art Gallery in Bozeman which was both part museum and gallery. Measures 5.5” H x 4” W x 5.5” D.
