Featured in this lot is this first edition "Journal of a Residence and Tour in the Republic of Mexico in the Year of 1826 Vol. I" by Capt. G.F. Lyon circa 1828. Journal of a Residence and Tour in the Republic of Mexico in the Year 1826 by Captain George Francis Lyon is a detailed firsthand account of the author’s travels through Mexico shortly after the country gained independence from Spain. Published in 1828, the journal offers vivid descriptions of Mexican society, politics, landscapes, and daily life during a pivotal time in its national development. Lyon, a British naval officer and explorer, provides candid observations of the people he encountered, local customs, and the challenges of travel in the early 19th century. His writing combines curiosity, wit, and an outsider’s perspective, making the work an important early English-language narrative about post-independence Mexico and a valuable resource for historians of the period. The condition of this book is is preserved with some wear to the inside of the spine and to the outside cover of the book with some browning to the pages consistent with age but otherwise shows a preserved condition. The measurements of this book is 8 1/8" x 5 1/8". The collective weight of this book is 12oz.
