Featured in this lot is this 1923 First Edition, "The Book of the American Indian" by Hamlin Garland, pictured by Frederic Remington, Harper & Brothers, New York publisher. Hannibal Hamlin Garland (1860-1940) was an American novelist, short story writer, poet, psychical researcher and essayist. Garland is known for his collection of western short stories. The book contains numerous Native American short stories and tales. The stories are accompanied by 35 illustrations done by Frederic Remington, with a combination of colored and black & white pieces. Frederic Sackrider Remington (1861-1909) was an American painter, illustrator, sculptor and writer who specialized in depictions of the American Old West. His works are known for depicting the Western United States in the last quarter of the 19th century and featuring images such as cowboys, Native Americans, and the U.S. Cavalry. The black and brown illustrated gold gilt hardcover shows nice condition overall with some scuffing to the corners and spine. Intact interior pages are in nice condition with no signs of tears nor foxing. Measurements are 9"W x 12.25"L x 1.25"D, weight 3lb, 4oz.
