Offered in this lot is a wonderful Hopi Polychrome Jar signed by famed artist, Anita Polacca, and from the 1940-1950's. Anita Polacca, (B. 1924) of Hopi Pueblo, was the daughter of Hopi potter Violet Huma, from the village of Sichomovi. She was an active potter from around 1940 to 2002. She is represented in the collection of the Museum of Northern Arizona. Anita certainly was an accomplished potter. The vessel shape of this jar is exquisite. It expands just above mid-section in a manner that provides substance and volume. A short collar style neck rises straight upward, thereby completing the upward thrust of the jar. The design is a bold rendition of an avian form. It is repeated only twice, once on front and then on the opposite side. By keeping the number of designs to only two, the potter was able to make each one large and prominent. The jar is in very good condition and has minor wear. The jar measures 4 3/4" tall and 15" around with a 2 3/4" opening.
