The lot features an Indian tanned hide quilled tomahawk war club drop from the Sioux in the 19th-century from the ex-C.M. Russell Museum Great Falls, Montana and John Kleinschmidt collections. The piece exhibits Indian tanned hide covered in porcupine quill quillwork with trade thread sewing. The quillwork has a nice geometric design with colors of red, orange both in natural mineral pigment dyes as well as natural cream / white. The top has a slit cut out and would have been on a war club or tomahawk and would have hung from the gripping handle, commonly referred to as a drop.
