Featured in this lot is this pair of Tombstone found copper Nitro-glycerin jugs circa 19th century and were displayed in the Tombstone Western Heritage Museum; Provenance: From the Tombstone Western Heritage Museum in Tombstone, Arizona. There are two jugs in this collection. Nitroglycerin was highly important to 19th-century mining, particularly for hard rock mining. It was a more powerful and efficient explosive than traditional black powder, leading to increased speed and efficiency in blasting and rock removal. This allowed for deeper mines, larger ore extraction, and the profitability of previously uneconomical deposits. Both jugs are constructed from copper with a rectangular upright form that shows two spouts per jug and a handle on the top. The labels underneath the handles read as follows: Danger - Nitro-Glycerin - Danger (and shows a square label with red and black field and gold lettering). The condition of this pair of Nitro-Glycerin cans is well preserved with some patina to the copper jugs consistent with age and the labels show an overall well preserved condition. The measurements of these Nitro-Glycerin jugs is 16 1/2" x 6 1/4" x 6 1/2". The collective weight of both jugs is 7lb 10oz. M167
