For your consideration is this Yuma Territorial Prison Enders Royal Service Double Barrel Side-by-Side Shotgun chambered in 12 gauge, circa 1880s to 1890s. Provenance: From the Tombstone Western Heritage Museum in Tombstone, Arizona. Shotgun is engraved on the top rail, "YUMA TERRITORIAL PRISON". The Yuma Territorial Prison is a former prison located in Yuma, Arizona, United States, that opened July 1, 1876. For the next 33 years 3,069 prisoners, including 29 women, served sentences there for various crimes ranging from murder to polygamy. Some of the notable inmates were former Cochise County lawman and train robber Burt Alvord, train robber Bill Downing, polygamist William J. Flake, gunfighter "Buckskin Frank" Leslie, and Pete Spence, outlaw involved in the Earp-Clanton feud. John Behan, former Sheriff of Cochise County, adversary of Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday in Tombstone was superintendent from Ocgtober 1887 to October 1889. His management of the prison was marked by prison disorder and mismanagement of public funds, generating complaints by the press. The Arizona Republic noted that $50,000 had passed through prison official's hands without any accounting. He faced censure for misuse of public funds and for running the prison in a "coarse and brutal manner" in 1890. This 12ga side-by-side shotgun is engraved on the fixed front sight bead sighting rib, "YUMA TERRITORIAL PRISON", engraved on the left trigger plate, "Enders Royal Service", stamped on the left barrel top, "GENUINE ARMORY STEEL CHOKE BORE". Serial number is stamped 290315. Blue-finished "Genuine Armory Steel" barrels with a warm patina observed throughout. Walnut stock is well preserved showing rich patina throughout, rich patina adorning the barrel and receiver but otherwise shows a well preserved condition. Barrels are 26"L, overall length is 43", weight is 7lb, 8oz. This firearm qualifies as an Antique, and does not require FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check.
