The lot features a fantastic Mid-19th Century Northern Plains hammer poll tomahawk with a long-fringed drop attributed to the Northern Arapaho Indians of Wyoming. This is an excellent circa 1860-1870 tomahawk with solid hammer poll on top of the head rather than a smokeable pipe bowl, making this a more menacing weapon. The hardwood haft has a nice shiny deep patina with some minor dings, nicks and scratches from honest age and use. The rounded haft is decorated with old brass trade tacks in several bands, worn gripping area and long, frilly Indian tanned buckskin hide drop attached to the bottom end with a circle of trade brass tacks. Provenance: Purchased by Cyrus Eaton of London, England from a fellow collector in the 1980’s an is noted in his collecting log book as being Arapaho Indians of Wyoming an collected as such. Measures overall 21”L with a head that is 6”L by 2 1/8”W across the blade and an additional 16”L fringed hide drop.
