The lot features a fine hair pipe bone beaded breast plate from the early to mid 1900’s and the Sioux Native American Indians of the Plains. The piece consists of seventy-eight long bone hairpipe (hair pipe) early beads with natural bone to slightly yellowing and spotted color from honest patina. The piece is constructed with four thick sections of harness saddle trade leather tied together with Indian tanned hide ties and further accented by solid brass, round, old trade beads with a nice dark patina. The piece shows a braided Indian tanned hide top neck strap with traditional two “V” ties from each harness piece coming together. At the base of the breastplate are two long Indian hide fringes. This is truly a wonderful traditional representation of a Chief or Warrior men’s breast plate from the early to mid-Indian Reservation Period. The piece is very similar in manufacture and material as the Sioux Chief’s Breast Plate sold by our company in November 2021 for $11,685 (shown with premiums), with the only main difference being the lack of a trade mirror and yellowing/stiffening of the hide. Measures overall 45” L with top neck piece and bottom fringe by 10.75” W.
