Featured in this lot are Vintage 19th Century Arctic Exploration Books, circa 1857 to 1898. Included are "The Frozen North", 1st Edition, by M. Douglas, circa 1890, DeWolfe, Fiske & Co. publishers; "Arctic Adventures by Sea and Land", 1st Edition, edited by Epes Sargent, 1857, Phillips, Sampson & Co. publisher; "Marvelous Wonders of the Polar World", First Edition, by Herman Dieck, 1885, The National Publishing Company publisher; "The Polar and Tropical Worlds", by G. Hartwig, 1872, publisher Bill, Nichols & Company. These classic books describe the early years of Polar exploration, including Franklin's lost expedition, the Parry expedition of 1819-20, the three expeditions of Charles Francis Hall, the remarkable sledge journey of three thousand miles by Lt. Schwatka and the Greely expedition amongst many others. Truly a wealthy collection chronicling truly remarkable achievements in the history of world exploration. The cloth and leather bound hardcover books are in fair to good condition overall, loose & detached boards, scuffing and fading noted. Age tanning and foxing observed on pages. Largest book measures 6.5"W x 9.75"L x 2.25"D, smallest is 5.25"W x 6.75"L x .75"D. Combined weight is 9 lbs, 2oz.*
