Presented in this lot is a WWI "Share in the Victory Buy War Savings Stamps" poster, circa 1918. Nike, the Greek goddess of victory, Lady Victory, wields a sword in one hand and a laurel frond in the other in this beautifully elegant WWI poster. The powerful imagery is meant to convey the triumphant winning of the war which can only happen if the viewer buys war savings stamps. The slogan is at the bottom of the poster, "Share In The Victory Save For Your Country Save For Yourself Buy War Savings Stamps". The "War Savings Stamps" logo is featured in the middle of the slogan. "Share in the Victory - Buy War Savings Stamps" refers to a slogan and poster campaign used during World War I and also during World War II in the United States, encouraging citizens to purchase war savings stamps as a way to contribute to the war effort by saving money that would be used to fund the military. Essentially, the idea was that buying these stamps would help individuals to "share in the victory" by supporting the troops financially. The artist's signature, "Haskell Coffin", is noted at the bottom right corner. The printer's name, "Mural Advertising RW Rustling Wood", is printed in the bottom left corner. William Haskell Coffin (1878-1941) was an American painter and commercial artist. He flourished in the early decades of the twentieth century, and his work appeared on the covers of leading magazines in the United States. He also produced war era posters commissioned by the US government. This color War Savings Stamps poster is in good overall condition, creases and tears noted, age tanning. Measures 20"W x 29.5"L.*
