Featured in this lot is this Artist Proof bronze sculpture called "Jackson Sundown," circa 1916 by artist Alexander Phimister Proctor born 1860 and died in 1950. The sculpture shows a wonderfully and professionally crafted bronze construction that shows a Native American man named Jackson Sundown posing and looking off to the left. Jackson Sundown (1916) was a rodeo rider on the western circuit when Proctor lived out west and was the basis for many of Proctor's works. The bronze sculpture is marked as follows: Jackson Sundown - Proctor AP - 1916; and the plaque is marked as follows: Jackson Sundown. 1916 - A. Phimister Proctor - 1862-1950. Alexander Phimister Proctor (September 27, 1860 – September 5, 1950) was an American sculptor with the contemporary reputation as one of the nation's foremost animaliers. His ability to capture animals in action, garnered in part from his days tracking them, coupled with his interest in all things Native American, opened a niche for Proctor, one that he parlayed into a long, successful career. The condition of this bronze sculpture is good with a slight patina adorning the bronze and a small chip in the marble base on the corner but otherwise shows good overall condition. The measurements of this bronze is 10 3/4" x 4 7/8" x 4 7/8".
