This is an Alaskan Inuit Eskimo cable-backed bow. The bow shows a unique bent wood construction and is backed with sinew cable to increase the overall strength of the bow. The bow came from the Colonel James T. Stanford collection in the early 1900's. Stanford came to Montana from Canada in 1875 and settled near Fort Benton. In addition, the seller states this piece was displayed in the Mint Saloon in Great Falls, Montana, a local favorite establishment of Charles Russell. The bow has a tag attached that reads "This bow was given (to) me by Sid Willis, it's out of the Col. Jim Stanford Collection / Very old as Stanford was in Canada & Montana 1870 till he died about 1927". The Alaskan Inuit Eskimo cable bow is in good condition. It measures 1.75" wide and 54.75" long.
