The lot features an original hand carved American folk art whirligig showing an American Indian in a canoe and dating to the circa 1900's. With a very pronounced rustic feel, and with definite folk art roots; this Native man paddling a canoe shows majestic detail and character to the simplicity of a whirligig. The Native American man has some of the best detail shown to his headdress and face compared to similar pieces. The paddles are connected at the point of the mans shoulder with a piece of wire thread through the shoulder. The canoe is fastened to the top of a pole above a directional whirligig with "N S E W." The measurements of this whirligig are 20 1/2" x 13 1/2".
