Featured in this lot is this Anasazi/ Mogollan Pinedale polychrome bowl circa 1100 - 1200 A.D. The bowl features a wonderfully and professionally crafted ceramic construction that shows polychrome coloration with black and why natural dyes on red painted ceramic. This bowl is from the Southwestern USA, east central Arizona and west southern New Mexico and from the Ancestral Puebloan (Anasazi) and shows work that was created by artisans from the Mogollan Pinedale tradition. The inside is decorated with a lizard with geometric patterns with stepped decoration inside of a triangle. The Anasazi tribe were just one group of Ancestral Puebloan people living during this period, and they shared both roots and key cultural elements with several of the other groups which lived in the region. Anasazi culture is famous for the stone dwellings which the ancestral Puebloan people built into cliff walls.
