Offered for sale in this lot is a woven fabric Germantown yarn sash from the Assiniboine Native American Indians from the renowned estate of Bruce VanLandingham of Sundog Gallery. The sash is believed to date from the early 1900’s from the Assiniboine people. The Assiniboine Native American Indians share a common ancestry with the Sioux people and believed by many to have a heritage with the Stoney, Santee, Lakota and Yankon-Yanktonai tribes being separated in the 17th Century. During the 19th Century the Assiniboine tribe resided in Northern Montana, Canada and North Dakota near the Missouri river. The sash shows a red, green and tan mineral dyed coloring with fine woven Germantown yarn. Provenance: From the renowned Sundog Fine Art Bozeman, Montana collection and collected by Bruce VanLandingham. Bruce VanLandingham was a pillar in the American Indian collecting community and a respected expert. Along with being an avid collector Bruce also was the sole owner of Sundog Fine Art Gallery in Bozeman which was both part museum and gallery.
